Patchstones

The dungeon does not have a static design, nor does it follow any direct purpose that anyone who may venture through it could find. There are cobbled halls with varnished wooden doors, ceramic mosaics wrapping through sprawling labyrinthine passages, rusting metallic drainpipes with massive Stillwater reservoirs, large metal coils emanating freezing cold that blankets ice over storage chambers. All of these environments can be found commonly but don’t even begin to tamp down the sheer number of varied stretches of dungeon and whatever oddities are contained within them. Between two distinct dungeons there is either a gradation between the two, or conversely a complete lack of gradation, making the separate dungeons seem like they have collided into each other at some point. Despite the lack of a pattern or design between certain dungeons, there are key components of each individual dungeon that manifest as single stones grouted into a wall, anchoring metal braces, crude circuits, or light bearing fixtures that bear magical properties that many have tried to study. These patchstones as they are commonly referred to are situated at center points or in any rooms or chambers of interest. Patchstones exist as far as people can tell as a diagnostic tool to measure the state of repair the dungeons exist in. Many scholars have found that magnets, metals, magicks and certain entities have bizarre reactions in the presence of these patchstones. On top of this phenomenon is the fascinating fact that the patchstones are ageless and seem to be locked in place outside of any sort of effect of reality. Many have tried to use them as targets for experiments or tried to destroy them and have come up with nothing. Many dungeon philosophers seek these objects out and wait near them for incite, though there doesn’t seem to be any reciprocation from the patchstones. Many try to document where they are located for the sake of triangulation and even safety from prevailing evil magic.

Here is a sketch of mine pertinent to this information which depicts one of the more decrepit dungeons. the fellow there is preparing to trek into that pit where there just happens to be a patchstone.
