Song Spells #3, Steely Dan - Peg

 Peg

Level: Intermediate

Appearance: The caster points their finger at an object or a person, and an ethereal spike strikes the target after flying from the caster’s fingertip. It resembles a small cylindrical nail or pin. No one else can see it except the caster. When it strikes the target, it flashes with an aquamarine vaporous aura.

Effect: When this spell strikes a target, it has three effects depending on what it strikes. If it strikes a person, the person will believe they are now stuck to the surface that they are standing on or up against. They can break out of this with a successful willpower roll upon being struck by the ethereal peg. The other two effects this spell has. If you strike an object or surface that you want to return to for navigational purposes, the nature of this spell will make you remember where it is at all times unless you use the spell again. The other and final effect peg has, is if you use it on an object or surface that is breaking actively. The object or surface will freeze in place after shoddily clumping together. Only one peg may be used at a time at an intermediate level. The number of pegs can go up, but the caster must be an advanced magic user.

Duration: Until it is cast again, or the caster dies, or the caster goes far enough away (up to the GM)

Range: Line of Sight

Type: Illusion or Evocation

This song is one of the songs that best describes steely dan. Witty lyricism with really talented session musicians. Chuck Rainey and Jay Grayden exemplify this with the excellent solo, and the solid bassline. The song is very jaunty and upbeat and is infectious to listen to.
